Get to know our team.
The term “salt meadow” comes from a 1947 pamphlet authored by Rachel Carson referring to the National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island in north eastern Massachusetts. Also known as ‘salt marshes’, salt meadows are diverse ecosystems found around the world. Where freshwater estuaries meet the sea, these habitats provide refuge to birds and other animals from harsh coastal conditions.
Only the second woman to be hired by the Fish and Wildlife Service, Rachel was a dedicated advocate. She is best known for her book Silent Spring, and she split her time between Washington, DC and northern New England. Like Rachel, Salt Meadow Consulting has roots in the mid-Atlantic and is headquartered in Massachusetts. At SMC, we strive to be effective champions for our clients as Rachel was for our natural world. We are led by curiosity and an intellectual rigor to produce results for our clients and the communities they serve.
